Positive: In itself, the house is good, as others have said. It’s clean, modern and comfortable as well as being passably well equipped. The main bedroom is lovely, having 2 glass walls and a third mirrored, so there is a light and spacious effect which is very pleasant. Potential guests should note that the property is named after the road on which it is situated rather than what would be an excellent feature. It is very near a beautiful beach, which requires a trek through scrubby bush land in order to access. So much for the bare facts; see below for the utterly holiday spirit destroying lack of welcome.

Negative: The house isn’t run by a private host despite what is on Booking.com. It’s run by Portland Seaview Holiday Stays, an agency from whom we received arrival instructions and house rules that would have made the Wehrmacht proud. Keys must be collected from Portland and returned there upon departure (a >30 minute, 40k round trip, particularly annoying in a hire car with restricted mileage). The instructions go on to detail all the responsibilities of the guests and the fines for not obeying; there isn’t space here to reproduce the list but includes fines for not putting their bins out on the right day (but not telling us when that day is). They also advise that if the BBQ gas bottle is empty then guests can replace it themselves and claim the cost back (so that’s another 40k back to Portland upon discovering the gas is empty and that could be half way through cooking?) Terrific. When we arrived, there was no garden furniture on the terrace and the BBQ was nowhere to be seen. We found it all in the garage and my 72 year old husband, on a celebratory holiday from beating cancer, nobly carried it all from the garage & up the steps onto the terrace. I cleaned off all the cobwebs and dust myself as that clearly isn’t considered part of having the property ready for guests. We reluctantly put it all away before leaving, in the pouring rain, sensing that somewhere in the T’s&C’s there would be a specific fine for not doing so.

Summary: Nice house, shame about the management
