Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: It was very clean and tidy. Not far from the train station too. It had some nice snacks and drinks for sale at reception. It was also not too expensive.
Negative: The room was ultra small, a little more than usual. I am used to Japanese rooms, and this was even smaller. The rooms don’t have much noise protection. The family staying next to my room had a baby who woke me up very early. I needed earplugs. The worst bit was a very uncomfortable moment when the staff refused to serve me breakfast. I asked the previous evening and a very nice staff member told me I only had to show up in the morning and ask for it. I do speak Japanese. But when I came in the morning, another young and not so friendly guy told me that if I did not request it the previous evening, I could not have breakfast. He said “muri” which is the key word for “go away” politely. The breakfast room was virtually empty and it was a buffet. There was no reason for him to not let have breakfast. Except I was the only foreigner in the hotel. I felt quite hurt and angry, being discriminated for not being Japanese. Even when I checked out, I could tell this young man did not feel comfortable even talking to me. It was humiliating. The staff the previous day was much nicer. Sadly I don’t think I’ll ever be back here only because of this experience. And I am a regular solo traveler in Japan, and I speak Japanese fluently. This doesn’t usually happen and it was unacceptable.
