Cardiff Bay (2.5 miles) is a former dockland that’s now a vibrant waterfront with shops, restaurants and attractions, and an international sports village on the freshwater lake offering Olympic-size swimming pools, white-water rafting and an ice-skating arena. There’s an artificial beach here every summer, with other beaches at Penarth (4 miles) and Barry Island (9.5 miles).
