About this space
Dating back to 17th Century, our characterful Yorkshire longhouse provides a spacious, comfortable retreat, offering a fantastic base for family and friends to meet up and socialise with plentiful opportunities for days out and activities. It is located in the vibrant market town of Pickering situated at the edge of the moors, famous for it's heritage railway, Pickering also has a bustling high street with a weekly market, cafes, shops, pubs, restaurants, all selling fresh, local produce.
The space
Our Grade II listed cottage is a fine example of a cruck-framed Yorkshire longhouse which was traditionally built to accommodate both family and cattle under one roof. It is featured in a book entitled 'Houses of the North York Moors'. The house is brimming with character having a host of original features such as the oak cruck beams, stone flagged floors, exposed stonework, a traditional cast iron Victorian range with 'smoke window' in the dining room.
The cottage features:
A spacious lounge where the impressive cruck frame is exposed up to the eves; it offers a comfortable, restful living space, having ample seating around the wood burning stove and TV.
The sofa bed in the snug provides an extra bedroom for 2 guests, if required. Please note that the bathrooms are all upstairs and accessed through the bedrooms so that guests sleeping in the snug would need to share a bathroom. When not used as a bedroom the snug provides a second lounge with an additional TV.
A large kitchen with a range cooker provides a welcoming space for guests to cook, eat and socialise together around the farmhouse table; it is fully equipped with a microwave oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, toaster, laundry facilities. Upstairs, the warm and welcoming bedrooms all have private bath or shower rooms and are furnished with comfortable beds.
A small courtyard garden through patio doors provides a pretty sitting area amongst shrubbery, to enjoy a morning coffee in the sun.
There is private parking for one car as well as a parking area on the road in front of the cottage.
Changeover day is normally Friday, but please contact us and enquire if you want to book different days.
The cottage is very old and consequently has some uneven floors and quite a few steps so may not be suitable for some.
Conveniently on the A170, situated just 5-10 minutes walk into town.

Please note that if guests use the sofa bed in the snug they will need to share one of the upstairs bathrooms with another guest.
