Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: Impressed by the value for money. Breakfast was included in the price, with a great selection of items to suit a wide range of dietary needs. The room itself was spacious and had everything you needed. A doggy treat box on arrival was a wonderful touch. The rosemary & nettle toiletries great for sensitive skin and made the room smell like a spa and were perfect for a long soak after a day of hiking. There is complimentary tea and coffee available, and at 3pm each day fresh scones are put out for guests to help themselves to, which was such a thoughtful addition. The three-course dinner in the evening was exceptional for the price paid and incredibly tasty. The hotel has a really cosy, homely feel, with just the right balance of privacy and friendliness. I was travelling alone with my dog and felt completely at ease. Before and after dinner, guests naturally congregated in the lounge area, with lots of games to enjoy. There were lots of well-behaved dogs staying, which added to the relaxed atmosphere. I ended up making some lovely connections over my two days with people I’ll stay in touch with. I didn’t even notice until my second evening that there wasn’t a TV in the room; which I felt encouraged much more interaction and integration amongst guests, a really refreshing change. The drying room was extremely useful and very much appreciated after wet hikes. Location is perfect for hiking and getting around the area, making it ideal if you’re exploring locally. Service and care were exceptional. Everything you might need had already been thought of - options to order packed lunch for the next day, laminated maps and bus timetables readily available. They even remembered my drink order from dinner the previous night. Little things go a long way and they really got the little things right! The level of attentiveness was consistent throughout my stay. Thoughtful, calm, and never intrusive.
Negative: The only area for improvement would be cleanliness in the room. While everything looked clean on first impression. The floor was quite dirty on arrival and would have benefited from a sweep or hoover, despite being laminate. There was noticeable dust behind the side tables, on the kettle, and on the mirror, and the shower screen seal could do with attention. I also noticed what looked like minor damp at the bottom of the wardrobe wall inside, which would be worth checking. These things stood out mainly because everything else was so well maintained and cared for. Overall, a truly welcoming, comfortable, and memorable stay - especially if you enjoy hiking, good food, dogs, and a warm, social atmosphere. I would happily return.
