Positive: We were enthusiastically greeted by Gerardo in the piazza nearby and shown to the apartment. If you dropped a pin into the geographical centre of Salerno, the apartment would be under it. Really great location. It's also about 20 metres away from a fabulous pizzeria (not the famous one you'd think it would be, but the "Portafoglio" one up the hill to the left). €5 for a classic Margherita, and if even that is too expensive for you, a folded ("portafoglio") Marinara can be had for €2.50. The apartment is cool inside - the walls must be a metre thick in places - and there are two comfortable bedrooms (a double and two singles, which is a family-friendly combination surprisingly hard to find in Italy). There's a nice little balcony to have your breakfast on (though the greenery you can see in the photos here has been removed due to building work, sadly). There's an excellent coffee machine, with a really well stocked basket of coffee pods. Enough for four people to have several coffees per day. Not like those hotels where they give you two. Overall, an ideal place to stay, in the centre of an exciting, walkable city with a lot to offer.
Negative: There is no kettle.
Summary: Cool apartment (in both senses of the word) in the heart of Salerno. Recommended.
