Being well equipped to dine in, or those that prefer eating out, North Walsham is literally on the doorstep to offer bistro pubs and award-winning fine dining restaurants. The town also has shops, host to local market days, supermarkets, a train station and cafés.
Be sure to bring your walking boots as there are many routes available from the doorstep. Footpaths and trails lead to Paston Way and Pigney Wood; an important wildlife woodland and wetland refuge for birds, mammals and insects such as goldcrest, nuthatch, warblers, otters, water voles, butterflies and dragonflies. Bacton Woods, made up of 280 acres of woodland and just 7 minutes away by car, is a great place for walking and picnic opportunities. The three way-marked walks can be found here to leisurely explore and discover the 200-year-old trees. Popular area for cycle enthusiasts, many local club riders will offer a warm welcome, both quiet lanes and off road trails available.
The neighbouring seaside villages of Bacton and Mundesley, 5 miles, have wide sandy beaches, Mundesley also has a golf course, cafés, shops and pubs. Well worth a visit during December and February is Horsey Beach, 16 miles away, for your chance to spot the grey seals and pups along the shore. The City of Norwich, 15 miles, has quaint cobbled streets, indoor shopping malls, fine dining, cafés, castle museum, theatre, and market square. Further afield visit Blakeney Quay for boat trips and crab fishing 22 miles. National Trust halls and gardens, including Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Holkham Hall and Sheringham Park, are within easy reach and the National Trust membership also offers free parking to many coastal car parks.
