Positive: The location is great—close to Lake Ashi and only a few minutes by car to Motohakone, where you’ll find restaurants and shops. On foot, however, the way leads along the main road, which I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The place has a unique charm from the very first moment—not necessarily cozy, but definitely stylish. Everything shown in the booking photos is exactly what you get. For larger groups and in warmer summer months, the accommodation is certainly a good choice, with a kitchen, BBQ area, and plenty of sleeping space to comfortably host and cater to a group.
Negative: However, the house is showing signs of wear. Some walls are missing paint, bits are chipped off here and there, and some finishing touches are lacking. In the living room, there’s no couch for comfortable seating, most of the decorative light signs no longer have batteries and barely glow, and the bathroom furniture is very basic plastic and not very sturdy. The biggest issue, though, is that the upper floor lets through every sound. On a windy, rainy evening and the following night, it honestly felt like sleeping in a tent—doors didn’t close properly, windows were drafty, and the beds creaked loudly with every movement.
